Holiness is the character of God, it is also the highway to heaven.

This book is dedicated to everyone that is passionate about becoming more and more like Jesus in character – by living a holy life. This is the purpose of walking in wisdom and understanding everyday.

Introduction

One day, while I was studying the book of Proverbs, my eyes stuck on a specific verse, and I couldn’t get it out of my heart and mind. I kept thinking about it all the time. So, I felt the Holy Spirit wanted to teach me something from it. Here is the verse;

7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Proverbs 4:7 (KJV)

It appeared to me that the word principle meant foundation---something of utmost importance- --something that is disastrous to lack in life. It was from this understanding that I started craving the wisdom of God.

Proverbs 23:23 says, “ Buy the truth and sell it not, also wisdom and instruction and understanding.” If you ever find something that is so important, go after it with everything in youbuy it and sell it not.

Life is built on foundations. If the foundations are not in place, failure is inevitable. Even the righteous can fall away from God if the foundations are destroyed (Psalm 11:3).

A foundation is a principal thing and has no substitute. Wisdom is a foundational element in life and has no substitute. It’s these and more convictions that inspired me to study and find out what it means to be wise. It is a wise decision to search for wisdom.

12 “But where can anyone find wisdom? Where can we get understanding?

Job 28:12 (ERV)

Like any other precious treasure, wisdom is not found on the surface; it is hidden, and there is need to search diligently before you can find it. So, where do we carry out the search from? The Bible, is the container of God’s wisdom, and it is through studying and meditating on its content that we become wise.

15 … ever since you were a child, you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

The Bible is full of wisdom and solutions to all issues in life. God has hid all man’s help in His Word. Therefore, within every scripture is the ability to set man free from all troubles. The wisdom of God is in His words - the scriptures.

The Bible is God’s manual for imparting wisdom to our hearts and minds. The more you read, understand and apply what you read, the wiser you will become in all matters pertaining to life and godliness.

This book is written not only to help you find out the definition of wisdom and understanding but to also show you how to obtain them. God told Joshua, as you study and meditate on my words daily day and night and keep speaking them, they will become your way of living, and make you wise and successful in all you do - Joshua 1:8.

May God’s wisdom and understanding fill your heart and mind as you study and embrace the truths in this book, in Jesus’ Name!

Part One: Walking In Wisdom

Chapter 1: What Is Wisdom?

Job defines wisdom as the fear of God. It is wisdom to fear God and it is a foolish thing to despise God in your heart.

The word ‘fear God’ as used in this verse, refers to having a high esteem or regard for God in your heart. It also means having great reverence for God and His word in your heart and in your daily conduct. In its simplest form, to fear the Lord, is to respect Him.

To revere or have reverence for God means, worshipping Him, exalting Him above yourself, considering Him as Superior to you.

It is having an understanding in your heart that God is your source of life, and therefore He deserves your worship, praise, adoration, service, and submission to His authority. The fear of God makes you humble and submitted to God in all things.

Every doctrine is established by the testimony of two or three other scriptures (2 Cor. 13:1). Therefore, apart from the definition given to us in the book of Job, we will look at what the Holy Spirit spoke through others about wisdom. This will help us confirm and have a better understanding of the definition of wisdom according to God.

Jesus is the wisest man that ever lived here in the earth. However, before Jesus came the wisest man was Solomon. It’s always important to get the testimony of those who are considered authorities on a subject before making a conclusion.

We will begin with the Holy Spirit’s definition given through the writings of King Solomon.

Solomon approves that fearing God is wisdom. He points out that it is actually the beginning or foundation of wisdom. This means that the first manifestation of wisdom in anyone’s life is the presence of the fear of God in their heart. In other words, if you want to find out whether or not someone is wise, you check whether or not they fear God.

Psalm 14:1 and Psalm 53:1 show us that it is the fool – the one who lacks wisdom (the fear of God) that says in his heart that there is no God. Until the fear of God enters a person’s heart, that person cannot be considered wise; the fear of God is the first manifestation of the wisdom of God.

To fear God, is to live continually in honor and respect of Him and His word. It is a heart desire to live a life that does not offend God in any way. It is the birth place of holiness.

Fearing God is a great character that produces within us all the attributes of wisdom that are explained in the other chapters of this book.

The wisdom of God is pure, therefore, its first work is to train us to hate evil (sin). People who fear God walk in wisdom and this wisdom teaches them to first of all hate evil and live a pure life.

Just like the scripture says, “he that hath not the Spirit of Christ is not his,” in the same vein, anyone that does not hate evil and depart from it lacks the wisdom of God. Everyone who fears God must detest sin and stay very far from it.

Proverbs 14:9 says, “Foolish people don’t care if they sin, but good people want to be forgiven”. Everything that comes from God draws us away from evil and brings us closer to God. Wisdom is a perfect gift from God. Nothing from God is impure and that’s why the manifestation of God’s gift to us is the fear of God-teaching us to hate evil.

Wisdom comes from a holy God and therefore it is holy. The holiness of God teaches us to hate evil and pursue righteousness. James says; “But the wisdom from above is first pure ….” James 3:17.

The Bible says, God is the only wise God (1Timothy 1:17) - meaning that God Himself opeartes by wisdom. Not only that, but God is the manifestation of wisdom. Wisdom comes to produce in us the character of God –Jesus Christ. Christ like character is impossible for a Christian who does not embrace and walk in wisdom.

James says, the first lesson of wisdom is purity – a hatred for sin or evil. Purity is the primary work of God’s wisdom. Purity is also the foundation upon which one maintains wisdom. When one begins involving in sin, this grieves the Holy Spirit, and blocks them from accessing the wisdom of God.

Loss of purity is a sure sign of loss of wisdom – the fear of God. We see this clearly shown in the life of Solomon. The moment he went after strange women and started worshiping their gods, he lost his wisdom (1Kings11:1-11). He only regained it later towards the end of his life after turning back to fearing God (Eccl.12:13).

It is important for you to keep yourself pure or else sin will corrupt the wisdom God has given you. Sin drives you away from God just as it drove Solomon away. It is therefore wisdom to hate sin and always keep yourself away from it.

Wisdom teaches us to love God and hate the devil and his works. It is important to note that we cannot love righteousness and love evil at the same time. We must decide on whom to serve – whether sin that leads to death or righteousness that leads to holiness and eternal life.

Matthew 6:24 says, “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

It is therefore true that becoming born-again is a work of the wisdom of God. Until we start fearing God (hating evil), we cannot be drawn to Him, to make us righteous and give us eternal life.

Salvation comes only to those who recognize the ugliness of sin in their life, hate it and seek for righteousness by faith in Jesus Christ. The wisdom of God teaches us to reject Satan and devote our life to serving God alone.

The fear of God is wisdom, and this wisdom teaches us to hate evil, and devote our lives to God by walking in holiness.

Chapter 2: The Wisdom Of God Is Peace-Loving

The first characteristic of wisdom is purity or holiness resulting from a holy detest for evil. The fear of God teaches us to hate evil and depart from it.

The second characteristic is that the wisdom of God is peace-loving.

It is a lack of wisdom that causes unrest among people. It is the reason for tribal conflicts, racial conflicts, and all forms of human unrest. The wisdom of God makes us peaceful people. It makes us hate strife, wars and contentions. We should make every effort to live at peace with everyone - it is wisdom.

The Good News Translation of Mark 9:50 says, “have the salt of friendship among yorselves, and live in peace with one another.” We preserve one another from being hurt, and live in safety when we choose to live at peace with each other at all times. Living as enemies with one another doesn’t foster peace; it doesn’t please God because it contradicts His wisdom of being peaceable.

The wisdom of God teaches us to live at peace with all men - those who treat us well and those who despise us. In the teaching of Jesus, He instructed us to walk in peace when He said;

Jesus teaches us to be at peace with our enemies by loving and praying for them. He even commands us to bless them – do good to them until we win them to God.

Love is a peace maker; hatred divides and causes confusion. Envy, strife, confusion, and disorder are signs of lack of wisdom.

Remember, if a man is not walking in the wisdom of God, he does not fear God and therefore he enjoys doing evil. Wisdom is a defense against the works of Satan. By teaching us to be peaceable, wisdom helps us reduce wars, conflicts and confusion. The absence of wisdom in society gives room for evil to prevail.

Proverbs 29:2 says, ”When the [uncompromisingly] righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked man rules, the people groan and sigh.” Peace and order in a country are signs that the leaders of that nation embraced the wisdom of God. Without wisdom, peace can’t be achieved.

The scripture above helps us know that if we pray for our leaders, God will put the fear of God in their hearts and this will enable them to administer peace in their nations. Instead of criticizing, we must pray for our leaders to walk in the wisdom of God. Peace easily comes when prayer for wisdom is made; for by wisdom is peace made possible.

Solomon prayed for wisdom and by wisdom the kingdom stayed peaceful during his reign as king of Israel. (1 Kings 3:5-12)

The wisdom of God transforms you into a peacemaker. Walking in peace towards all people is wisdom. There can be peace between husbands and wives, parents and children, leaders and their followers if we embrace the wisdom of God. Where wisdom is, God is, and there is peace and order.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the foremost tool for bringing peace in the world. It is the gospel of peace. Until man is at peace with God through Jesus Christ, he cannot be at peace with fellow man; loving God precedes loving our neighbours.

The love of God is shed abroad our hearts by the Holy Spirit after hearing and believing the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is the love which empowers us to be peaceful – walking in the wisdom of God. The wisdom of God teaches us to be at peace with God through faith in His Son Jesus Christ and also be at peace with our neighbours through love.

The peaceable character in the wisdom of God is also rooted in obeying the two commandments Jesus gave us.

Loving God is the foundation for being able to love people (your neighbour) also. Then, it wil be easy for you to live peacefully with all because true love is the greatest peace maker. Learn to live at peace with everyone around you – it shows that you are wise!

Chapter 3: Gentle

It is important to note that the various characteristics of wisdom are a revelation of the character of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is pure, He is the prince of peace and He is gentle.

After making us pure and peaceable, wisdom then develops in us the character of gentleness or humility.

Deuteronomy 34:9 says Moses laid his hands on Joshua and thereby the spirit of wisdom came upon him. But in life we cannot give what we don’t have. This is a true principle and it helps us know that Moses could not give to Joshua what he himself lacked.

Jesus came that we may have life (John 10:10) but He is the life (1John 5:11-12). Moses therefore had the wisdom of God before God instructed him to pass it on to Joshua. The question is, “Did the wisdom Moses have make him gentle or humble?” The answer is Yes!

Humility and wisdom are always found in the same place. No man can claim to have God’s wisdom and not reflect it by being of a humble character. Gentleness is a sign that one has the wisdom of God. Moses proved that he had the wisdom of God by his character of being more humble or gentle than everyone in his time.

After Moses, Joshua came and led the children of Israel into the Promised Land. Joshua was a powerful warrior, but it is evident that it’s the wisdom of God that made him powerful. We see that with all the authority Joshua had from God, he did not forget to follow the steps of his master Moses – the path of humility (wisdom).

The Bible shows that Joshua was a humble leader among the children of Israel. He never tried to exalt himself into leadership after Moses was dead. However, the gentleness of Joshua is most revealed in the division of land. The scriptures show that Joshua was the last one to be given land after all the tribes of Israel had got theirs.

The scripture above reveals that:

 Joshua was the last one to get his inheritance.  It was the people that gave it to him (not himself).  He was humble and asked for it from the people. He did not claim it as a leader or take it by force.

Joshua proved that the wisdom of God was in him by being gentle and humble among the children of Israel. Humility is proof that we are wise; pride is of the devil – it is what caused his fall. Pride is evil that is why the wisdom of God teaches us to be humble.

Humility is strength because by it we obtain grace to stand and never fall.

Pride is exalting yourself and your desires above God and His word. It is the force behind all rebellion against God and His word. In humility and gentleness, we exalt God and His word above ourselves and our desires. We therefore, submit to Him and His word easily, and continually walk perfectly before Him in obedience.

The wisdom of God gives you power against the devil by teaching you to submit to God in humility. It is our humility or gentleness before God that gives us power with God, men and against Satan.

God promotes the humble – this is how wisdom exalts you. Then by God’s promotion, you gain more power to influence the world for Christ. The promotion of God, elevates you above the attacks of Satan, and you receive power to resist Satan until he flees from you. Humility is not weakness – it is the foundation for being powerful before God, before men and before Satan.

Wisdom caused Moses to be so gentle that he could not respond negatively to Aaron and Miriam’s criticism, but kept quiet and waited for God to defend him. He did not defend himself, yet he had knowledge that he was used of God more powerfully than them.

Gentleness is the cure for pride. Victory over pride is wrapped in the wisdom of being humble before God and gentle towards all men. Men and women who walk in the wisdom of God are neither proud in their speech nor in their actions. They do not blow their own trumpet.

Pride is the highest manifestation of foolishness because it is self-exaltation. Humility teaches you to exalt God and others above yourself.

Proverbs 14:3 says, “In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.” It was the wisdom of being gentle that kept Moses from becoming proud or boastful in the sight of Aaron and Miriam.

There is also a major connection between the wisdom of being humble and long life. Proverbs 22:4 says; “by humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life.” Moses lived 120 years, still strong as he was, in his youthful days because he walked in the wisdom of being humble before God and people.

God gives His grace to the humble. He gives His leadership positions to those who are of a humble heart. If one seeks to be on top, they must first embrace gentleness in their heart. It is by this wisdom that you receive grace for being on top – excelling above all others!

The grace of God was so evident in the life of Moses and this grace caused him to perform mighty miracles, signs and wonders in Egypt. It was the grace of God that gave Moses the privilege of talking to God face-to-face. He was distinguished above all prophets in Israel because of being gentle before God and the children of Israel.

It is wisdom to be humble in the sight of God and men. Except a man embrace the wisdom of humility, they will remain a follower and never lead. They will even fail to continue following because pride eventually causes them to become rebellious to authority.

Humility exalts a man, but pride brings him down. Satan was known as Lucifer before he became proud. It is pride that turned a beautiful and mighty cherub angel into a demon (See Isaiah 14).

The way of pride is therefore the way of the devil but humility is wisdom for staying away from that path. Pride will make a man a devil but humility will make him to be like Jesus.

If a man is to be high in God, he must abase himself and become gentle. Saul lost his throne and kingdom because of pride whereas David was chosen and elevated to kingship because of humility (1 Sam.15:16-17).

God does not live everywhere; He dwells among the humble people (Isaiah 57:15). It is an honor for us to always be humble before God and His people.

Jesus Christ is the highest emblem of humility in the scriptures. Therefore, when one receives Jesus Christ into their life He becomes their ability to become humble or gentle. Humility is the mind (attitude) of Christ.

We can learn several key marks of humility from the scriptures above. First, we see that Jesus, “…made himself of no reputation …”. Therefore, we understand that the love for power and having a reputation among men is a great hindrance to humility.

The humble seek to do God’s will regardless of what people may think about them; they never disobey God simply because they want to protect their reputation in this world. They seek a higher reputation – one that is heavenly and eternal. This is wisdom and it is the nature of Jesus – the wisdom and power of God.

Secondly, “…he humbled himself, and became obedient …”. Obedience is a show of humility before God; it is the fruit of being truly humble. Jesus’ obedience was a demonstration of humility and wisdom.

Lastly, Jesus ‘…took upon him the form of a servant …’. Servant hood – serving God and those in need, is a mark of humility, and a demonstration of the wisdom of God in your life. Wanting to be served and being too proud to serve God and others is a show of lack of wisdom.

The coming of Jesus Christ on the earth and His death on the cross is the greatest wisdom of God ever manifested. He being God accepted to be born of a human being, live among human beings and be killed by and for human beings.

God subjected Himself to all that man is meant to go through because of sin, so that He can bring salvation to all who believe in Him. From this, we understand that rejecting Jesus Christ is the highest manifestation of pride.

A proud person refuses to accept that he or she needs to be saved from their sins. This is the reason why those who reject Jesus Christ face a judgement similar to that of Satan. Hell and the lake of fire is actually God’s judgement for man’s pride.

Receive Christ into your heart if you haven’t yet received Him. Abide in His word through continual study and practice. Always be broken before God – living a clean life through repentance, faith and love. Humility is greatness – obtain and keep it at all costs.

Chapter 4: Willing To Yield To Others

Wisdom causes one to have an open heart even in the worst of times. Openness of heart helps one not to become proud or judgmental. It helps one control their anger and stay sober.

A person who cannot easily be intreated is one who concludes quickly and doesn’t allow room for others to correct him or her.

Wisdom teaches us to accept correction from others easily. This is a very important manifestation of having the fear of God in one’s heart

People who fear God know that they need correction because they know that God can correct them through another person. When we go in the wrong direction may be because of anger, pain, worry or any other negative circumstance, we should not become “locked” in our pain or anger and avoid advice, counsel or correction from other people.

The best way to come out of a negative situation is by remaining sober. You can only stay sober by putting yourself in a place where ‘you have not concluded’ but are still open to other people’s views about the situation. Having a closed spirit binds and that’s why it’s very important for us to stay open to other people’s correction , advice and instructions as well as open to reason.

One time, Paul wanted to go and preach in Asia but the Holy Spirit wanted him to go to Macedonia. The Holy Spirit was correcting Paul about his convictions. Paul was humble enough to go to another place instead of the one he ‘wanted’; he was ‘easy to be intreated’ of the Holy Spirit.

Paul submitted his convictions to the leading of the Holy Spirit which is a manifestation of wisdom.The fear of God makes us soft before God, always willing and ready to go His way instead of going our own way. Paul submitted to the will of God; he took God’s way (Macedonia) rather than his own way (Asia). He accepted the correction of God (See Acts 16:6-10).

Submission is tested during times of correction. Whether or not we are submissive is determined by how we respond to other people’s correction. It is difficult to be submissive if you hate correction. The wisdom of God makes us submissive by teaching us to love and accept correction. This character was best demonstrated by the Lord Jesus Christ (Php. 2:5-7).

A person who is easy to be intreated can easily be won back because when they go in a certain direction they still have room in their hearts to listen to advice concerning the right direction. In other words, wisdom makes one soft and open to correction.

Wisdom makes one respect authority. It kills rebellion and produces obedience in our hearts. Thus submission is revealed by one’s level of obedience.

Disobedience on the other hand makes one hard to reconcile or win back since it causes them to resist advice, counsel and correction. Though Jesus was equal with God, yet He did not hold on to it as a hindrance to dying for our sins. He let go of His rights and said, “Not my will but your will be done.” It was this submission that caused Him to obey the Father. Our salvation is a product of the wisdom of God.

It is wisdom to accept correction from God and people. It is a mark of wisdom to be submitted and yield to other people’s advice and counsel. This is the wisdom of God for saving you from your own wrong way, and turning you onto the right path – the path of life and righteousness.

Always be willing to yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit, and to the people around you. This shows that you are wise - when you obey the Holy Spirit, and submit to other people’s counsel and correction. here is a reference to compassion and desire to help those who are less privileged or in need.

THE WISDOM OF GOD IS FULL OF MERCY AND GOOD FRUITS

The character of the wisdom of God is a revelation of the character of Jesus Christ – Christ likeness.

The next characteristic of wisdom is that it makes us full of mercy and good fruits. Mercy It also means kindness toward the weak, and the willingness to do good to them. In other words, the wisdom of God causes us to start caring about the welfare of others.

Chapter 5: Full Of Mercy And Good Fruits

It is wisdom to care for the poor, orphans, widows, elderly, handicapped and any other vulnerable group of people.

Wisdom from God is demonstrated by taking care of others.

We were sinners and God in His wisdom had mercy on us. In His mercy, we found forgiveness of sins and eternal life. In mercy, we became righteous before God. This mercy of God shows how much God cares about us.

Notice that chapter three of James is a confirmation of chapter 2. In chapter 2 James talks about caring for or extending mercy to the poor by doing good works (fruits).

The wisdom of God is full of mercy and mercy convicts us to do good works for others. Charity organizations like orphanages are extensions of mercy. They are platforms for walking in the merciful nature of God’s wisdom.

Proverbs 14:21, 31 says, “He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he. He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.” It is wisdom to be merciful to those who are in need, and show it by giving to them generously.

Jesus was full of mercy and always ministered to the poor. He used to buy clothes and food for them. This is shown when He gave clothes to the man who was possessed by a legion of demons - Mark 5.

Jesus had a money bag and it was carried by His treasurer (Judas Iscariot). He used to get money from the bag and take care of the poor. Judas took advantage of this ministry by stealing the money in the bag – John 12:4-6.

At this point, I would like to point out that wisdom is profitable; therefore, every character of wisdom produces a harvest of good things in our lives. Mercy and good works done for the poor purchase for us a reward on earth and before God in heaven.

The wisdom of extending mercy to the poor through good works is a means for us to lay up in store for ourselves a good foundation against the time to come – the Lord’s judgement, so that we may lay hold of eternal life. Jesus gives an explanation of how this works in Mathew 25.

The above scripture is a detail about what will happen on the judgement day of Jesus Christ. It is a revelation of the character of the saints who should inherit eternal life. In it, we obtain a list of the different good works we can do to show mercy to others.

Jesus reveals the importance of being full of mercy and good workswalking in the wisdom of God towards those around us.

We do all this to people but God says we are doing it to Jesus Christ. The picture God has about extending mercy to the poor and needy by doing good works is different from what we see here in the earth. It ministers differently to God when we visit those in prison and extend hospitality to strangers. This is what will surprise us.

I believe that these scriptures are a great encouragement for us to continue to do good to the needy. Extending mercy to the poor through good works is indeed a manifestation of the wisdom of God. We show that we fear the Lord (judge). See also Mathew 25:41-46 .

It is wisdom to have mercy on those who are suffering and help them through good works.

In conclusion, Galatians 6:9 says, “Don’t get tired of helping others. You will be rewarded when the time is right, if you don’t give up.”- (CEV).

Chapter 6: Without Partiality

Partiality refers to a tendency to favor an individual, group, view or opinion over all other alternatives. It refers to showing favoritism. It is esteeming one above others; loving one and despising another.

The second last character of divine wisdom is its ability to make us ‘impartial’-people who never take sides.

This character is very important in making the right judgement about people and things. It is the character that protects us from taking bribes to prevent righteous judgement. The platform for making right judgement is being impartial.

Jesus is our judge and He is impartial. This is revealed when He appeared to Joshua as a commander of the heavenly armies (Jos. 5:1314). He does not take sides.

This part of wisdom deals with valuing and respecting all people. Respect is a sign of value and value helps in making the right judgement. We treat people based on the value we place on them. The value God places on people should be the benchmark for judging them.We must treat people the way God treats them. This is the only way we can eliminate partiality (become impartial).

John 3:16 shows us God’s impartiality in loving mankind. He loved all the people in the world, that everyone who believes in Him (in any place of the world) will not perish (suffer God’s punishment for sin in hell and the lake of fire), but “all who believe” regardless of tribe, race, culture or social class, receive everlasting life.

God loves the whole world and He extends His invitation for salvation to all. God is not a racist, tribalistic or politician. He does not belong to any religious denomination. He seeks a relationship with all people in the world. This relationship begins when we believe in His Son Jesus Christ as our Saviour and confess Him as Lord according to Romans 10:9.

God values all people and He does not have favorites. He therefore desires that none of them perishes but that all become born-again through faith in Jesus Christ.

The cure for impartiality is love. The love of God for mankind is reflected by Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. Seeing people through the eyes of God’s love makes us value and respect all of them. The love of God teaches us to be impartial by letting us know that all people in the world have equal rights to access God through Jesus Christ.

God’s standard is ONEJesus Christ to all who believe, whether Jew, Italian, Ugandan, American or from any other nation. Jesus Christ is the message about God’s standard for treating all people equally. In Jesus, there is no partialityall people become one family.

The cross is a message of God’s love and value for all tribes, races, languages and nations in the world. Before Him, no one is superior to the other. He unites all people into one family (the church of Jesus Christ) when they become bornagain through faith in His Son Jesus Christ.

Jesus’ teaching on impartiality;

God hates division and commands us to live in love and unity. Jesus demonstrated this in His earthly lifestyle when He preached to people of all classes in society. He preached to them the same message.

In Mathew 5:43-48, Jesus reveals that we are to love every one including our enemies. He was teaching on the impartiality of love. As followers of God, we must love all people and our love should be without partiality (segregation).

Everyone deserves to be loved, even our enemies. This is true and easy to practice when we know that we have only one enemySatan. The people that fight us are used by Satan the real enemy. Let us not focus on the devil’s instrument but rather on the devil behind the instrument. Love helps us live peacefully even with our enemies-those who hate us.

Hatred separates and perverts our judgement. If you consider anyone your enemy and you hate them, you will miss out on God’s plan for them through your life. In other words, you will not allow God to use you to help them: instead, you will hate anything to do with them.

God’s love in your heart, keeps you sober minded and ready to make changes for positive results. It’s this love that Jesus commands us to walk in towards those who persecute us and despitefully use us.

Let your ‘enemy’ still have room for reconciliation before you: do not shut them out of your life completely. Pray for their transformation and this will begin with the way you behave towards them.

Your character is a greater tool for changing your enemy than your prayers. Therefore, avoid hatred, bitterness and strife. Walk in lovewithout partiality towards those who hate you. This makes you a perfect reflection of God’s nature.

It is important to note that impartiality is a form of division. It divides people based on social class, religious background, nationality, and any other natural standards.

When you look at both Jesus and James’ teachings on partiality, you will notice that Jesus’ teaching was mainly relationship based (friends and enemies) whereas James’ was based on social classes (the rich and the poor). We should not relate to people based on whether they love us or not, whether they are rich or poor, educated or not; we should be like God.

The goal of wisdom in making us impartial is to create unity. Wisdom calls for unity among all people in all classes. This unity can only be achieved in Jesus Christ.

Paul helps us understand this in his letter to the Galatians and his letter to the Ephesians.

Jesus came to unite all the nations of the world through faith in Him. By salvation, we become ‘Christians’ without any partial segregations. We become one family and call each other brother and sister.

The wisdom of this world seeks to divide people, nations and continents. Hatred is Satan’s way of creating division among men. The fear of God is wisdom and this wisdom teaches us to love everyone because God loves everyone.

Justice in a nation is a result of having an impartial leadership. Leaders who fear God treat His people with equality.

These verses reveal that king Solomon was impartial in his judgement. He did not take sides but ensured that there was equality in his judgement of the matter. He said, ‘’…..give half to the one, and half to the other.’’ He desired that each of the women gets justice. This was because Solomon feared God. He operated in the wisdom of God and didn’t respect or value or esteem one of the women above the other. He placed equal value on both of them, and judged fairly between them. This impartial way of judging earned him great honor among the children of Israel.

God does not show partiality between people; therefore, we also should imitate Him and walk in wisdom by treating all people the same way inspite of their tribe, race, education background and social status.

Chapter 7: Without Hypocrisy

The opposite of hypocrisy is walking in the truth or being transparent. Hypocrisy is living a life that is a lie. It is also similar to image making where one pretends to be what they are not.

Hypocrisy is walking in deception or darkness by hiding one’s true nature, character and identity. The cure for hypocrisy is walking in the light of God’s word-the truth. God calls us to walk in the light as He is in the light.

Hypocrisy is not wisdom. It is a form of hidinghiding our true identity from God and those around us. Remember first of all, the wisdom of God is PURE; and living in hypocrisy is living an impure life because it’s a life of lying by putting up a false image before God and others.

Transparency is the way to deliver yourself from hypocrisy. We become transparent by choosing to walk in the truth - living according to the word of God.

The first form of hypocrisy is lying to God. This is based on man’s attempt to hide his sins or faults from God. It is when man hides his true character from God. This is man’s way of avoiding the truth-by pretending to be okay before God through good works - Luke13:14-16.

In this case, man knows the truth, but he doesn’t want to face it: so, he puts up an alternative way of living that appeals to his sensesconvincing him you are good especially because of the way you behave outwardly without looking at the state of his heart. However, this is all hypocrisy because God looks first on the heart, not on the outward appearance.

Transparency is therefore, a result of speaking and acting according to your heart. Having your words and actions aligned with what is in your heart. The things we do and the words we speak should be consistent with the character of our heart.

Hypocrisy is speaking and acting differently from what is in your heart. It is pretending to say and do something yet in your heart you’re thinking differently. Transparency before God requires that we come out of hiding, confess our sins to God and ask for His forgiveness.

God is not impressed by what we do or say outside, but what we do and say in our hearts. It is wisdom to come to the light that the light may expose and take away any darkness from our lives. Jesus is the light of the world – John 8:12.

Hypocrisy is a character of the heart and therefore it takes a change of heart to live a transparent life before God. It is possible to be in church on Sunday, worshipping God with your mouth yet your heart is outside on the football field or watching television. God wants our hearts before we can worship with our mouths. If our hearts are given to Him, our mouths will be full of praises. Then our worship will be without hypocrisy.

The greatest weapon in the kingdom of God is TRUTH; the greatest weapon in the kingdom of Satan is ‘lying and deception.’ One cannot walk in both: he or she has to choose to either walk in the truth or in deception. Hypocrisy is living a lie and it is an operation of the kingdom of Satan. Transparency is walking in the truth and it is a life that represents the kingdom of God.

All through the ages the fight for man’s soul has been between following the TRUTH or deception. Eating the forbidden fruit was a turning away from the truth towards deception. The tree of life represented Jesus Christ –the way, the truth and the life.

Satan is the father of all lies. Man is always presented with a choice –to either walk in the truth by following Jesus Christ or hypocrisy and deception by following the liar-Satan.

It is wisdom to walk in the truth because anything less than that comes from the devil. The fear of God leads us into accepting the truth and also being faithful by continuing in the truth. It is by doing this that we come to “know’’ (be one with) the truth and the truth makes us free. Outside the truth we are not safe and free – we live in darkness and bondage.

It is wisdom to abide (continue) in the truthJesus is the Truth through whom we see the light and become free. This wisdom is what makes us free from the wrath of God - John 14:6.

In Proverbs 21:16, the Spirit of God says, ‘Whoever wanders from the path of understanding will end up where the dead are gathered.’-(ISV) Jesus is the way of true understanding. No one can understand God’s way until they come to Jesus Christ. He is the truth through whom we gain understanding of the truth about God and ourselves. However, also the life of God is hid in the truth; the truth is the way, and He is also the life. Therefore, He says, away from the truth, we find ourselves in the company of those who do not have life-the dead.

Walking in wisdom by abiding in the Truth (Jesus Christ), fills us with the life of God.

Walking in hypocrisy leads to death. He that has the Son (the truth) has life and whoever does not have the Son of God (the truth) is dead. Truth is real life; deception leads to death i.e. separation from God. Hypocrisy leads to death but walking in wisdom leads to transparency before God, and life.

Friend, we would like you to consider the following verses, examine yourself, and turn to the wisdom of God by turning to the truth in order to come out of hypocrisy. It is wisdom to accept the truth about yourself and God - the truth that you need to be saved from your sins through faith in Jesus Christ.

If you are not yet born-again, I invite you to accept the truth-that you need a savior by praying the following prayer.

God In Heaven, Thank you for sending Jesus to die for my sins on the cross. I believe that Jesus is Your Son and that you raised Him from death for my righteousness. I give my life to Jesus today to save me and be the Lord of my life forever, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

If you have prayed that prayer, the good news is you are now born-again! The scripture says you have come to Christ and have been turned into a new person on the inside and old things have gone - 2Corinthians 5:17.

Jesus is the wisdom of God, we should walk in. It is by following Him that all the virtues discussed in this book become part of us. All these characteristics are different aspects of God’s wisdom-embodied in Jesus!

Part Two: Walking In Understanding

Chapter 8: Defining Understanding

The fear of God is wisdom, that is what we looked at in the first part of the book. It is very important to fear the Lord because it causes us to hate evil and live for God. However, it is important to go on and do more. We must ask God for understanding.

Fearing God comes firstit is the number one thing you need, but it is not the only virtue we need to live a successful Christian life. To every house, there is both a foundation and a superstructure (top building). Wisdom is our foundation but understanding makes up the superstructure.

It is important to note that just as a foundation alone can’t make a full building, wisdom alone can’t make us successful in God. It must be built upon through understanding to make a complete structure.

Foundations are not visible but the superstructures are visible. Understanding brings glory to wisdom. Just as woman is the glory of man, understanding is the glory of wisdom. Wisdom cannot be glorified without walking in understanding.

Understanding is a product of walking in the fear of God. Once one begins hating evil (develops hatred for evil) in their heart, then they can move towards obtaining understanding (the ability to depart from evil).

There are two kinds of understanding namely; the ability to depart from evil (Job 28:28) and comprehension of spiritual truth (Mathew 13:1015). But in this chapter we will concentrate on ‘the ability to depart from evil.’ Our aim is to show the relationship between the fear of God (wisdom) and the ability to depart from evil (understanding).

This book came as a result of several months of meditating on Job 28:28. I almost titled it Job 28:28. It is an explanation of the two definitions revealed in this verse of scripture. God was showing me that it is not enough to fear Him, but we must also act by departing from evil.

The fear of God prompts action and it is these actions that reveal our understanding. Just as faith without works is dead, so also hating evil alone without distancing yourself from the evil is not enough. We must fear God, hate evil, and depart from it.

Notice the phrase,“… that they may keep thee from the strange woman …” This verse helps us see the combined effort of wisdom and understanding in defeating evil. It is a combination of fearing God (hating evil) and staying away from evil that gives us victory over temptation and sin.

The scriptures emphasize the truth that ‘two are better than one’ (Ecclesiastes 4:9). The fear of God helps us hate evil. It is wisdom for not loving that which God hates. It helps us have the same character like God towards (sin) evil. However, this alone cannot save us. Remember, ‘the fear of the Lord is the beginning and not the end of wisdom. The next level is understanding - the ability to depart from the evil we hate.

If one just hates evil but stays close to it, they will soon be drawn to and overcome by it. It is wisdom to hate evil but that wisdom will not save you until you add understanding to it.

Lot was a righteous man who feared God with all his family but was staying close to evil. His family was exposed to the evil in Sodom and Gomorrah continually. The scripture tells us ‘evil company corrupts good morals.’ Soon Lot’s sons-in-law were overtaken by the evil in the city and when God told Lot and all his family members to come out of Sodom and Gomorrah, the sons-in-law refused and perished. Lot and his family feared God but God brought them understanding by instructing them to leave the city. Wisdom can be corrupted if it’s not combined with the ability to depart from evil.

The bible says in the last days, the love of many (for God) will grow cold because evil will increase. An increase in evil or staying in an evil environment can destroy the fear of God in one’s heart and cause them to compromise.

Everyone who fears God, must ensure that they also get understanding so as to stand strong against the evil that is on the increase in the world. If you find out that there is evil in the place you stay in, don’t just hate the evil but also keep yourself from being contaminated by it through understanding.

At this point, I would like to point out that we should not hate people, but hate the evil in their life. We are the light of the world and have a responsibility to help those in darkness ‘see and experience the light of the gospel.’ We should not stay away from people, but stay away from the evil in their life. Jesus came for the people. However, it’s also true that sometimes we need to physically separate from wrong people to stay pure. This is depicted by the way God dealt with the foreign tribes that were staying in the land of Canaan. He told Joshua to destroy them so as to preserve His people from following after their gods. (Deuteronomy 7:1-6)

We are also called to separate ourselves from people who are ‘joined to sin’. The Bible says, ‘’… do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers …”. Paul was cautioning us against being so involved with sinners to the point that we are influenced into doing the same evil things they do. Associating continually with people who are living in sin can become a platform for giving place to the devil to draw us into sin.

Truth is very powerful but deception is also powerful. Salvation is very powerful but sin is also powerful. The greatness of salvation is in its ability to free us from the bondage of sin. It is by salvation through faith in Jesus Christ that we are delivered from the power of sin. It took God Himself to free us from sin. The reason I am saying this is that we must not underestimate the power of sin.

The blood of Jesus overcame sin but we should not be casual with it; it is contagious and can eat up a whole company of people or even a whole nation. Nineveh was going to be destroyed with all its inhabitants because of sin. Sodom and Gomorrah perished because they were corrupted by sin. This is what Paul meant when he wrote that, ‘a little leaven leaventh the whole lump - 1 Cor. 5:6.

God brought a flood to save Noah and his family from being corrupted by the increasing sin among the people in their time. What brought an increase of sin in Noah’s time can also bring an increase of sin in our time.

The scripture says, “the sons of God took wives of the sons of men”. As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God and whosoever receives Jesus Christ and believes on His name, is given the power to become a son of God. From this background, we understand that the ‘sons of God’ were those who were worshiping God-the holy people in that time. The scripture says that to be carnally minded is death; its enmity with God.

The scripture also says, “walk in the spirit that you may not fulfill the desires of the flesh.” It is therefore evident that the ‘sons of men’ were those who were not following the Spirit of God but lived according to the desires of their flesh. These are they who did not know God and served sin and Satan.

God has always preserved a remnant for himself. This remnant is a holy people who worship Him in spirit and in truth. He saw that Noah was a righteous man and perfect in all his ways and Noah pleased God. The sin that sprung up from Adam and Eve was eating up even ‘holy seed’ of that time. Noah’s righteousness was also at stake and God told him to build an ark for the saving of his family.

Jesus said that if the days of his second coming were not shortened, sin would even overtake the righteous.

God loves people and does not kill people but destroys sin. He wiped away sin from the face of the earth through the coming of the flood. However, it is shown to us in scripture that Noah first preached to the people thereby giving them an opportunity to turn back to God, before the flood comes but they rebelled and refused to believe him. The love of God is so strong that he always provides everyone with an opportunity to be free from the wrath to come.

Understanding preserves us from being drawn back into the sins and evil desires that we have been cleansed from through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Let us look at an example of someone who lacked understanding and was overcome.

We can find out several things about understanding from the above scriptures. First, by the character of the young man who is void of understanding. The scripture says that he was ‘simple’ meaning he was young spiritually. He was one that was not acquainted with the things of God. He was a spiritual baby.

Psalms119:130 says, “The entrance of God’s word brings light and gives understanding to the simple.” From this we know that the young man lacked understanding because he did not know the Word of God. The Word of God is the source of understanding.

David says, “How can a young man keep himself pure? By paying attention to the Word of God” - Psalm 119:9. The strength and courage to walk away from sin is drawn from the Word of God in your spirit.

One time, a friend of mine was pressured by some situations at home to the point that he almost went to a witchdoctor! In his story, he said that while he was on his way to the shrine, the word of God came into his heart saying ‘greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world - 1John 4:4.

It then dawned on him like light that the Jesus in him, is greater than the Satan he was going to seek after in the shrine. He had Jesus in him and the witch was a servant of Satan. It was at this point that understanding came to his heart and he came back home without going to the witch doctor. The Word of God brought light in his dark moment which light gave him the ability to depart from evil.

Understanding and wisdom are the means for overcoming temptation and sin. Living a pure life is impossible without first of all having the fear of God in your heart and then developing the ability to depart from evil through the Word of God.

Notice the young man went out ‘in the twilight in the evening, in the black and dark night’ – at the wrong time. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and one of the roles of wisdom is to ‘teach young men to know judgement. It is evident that the young man lacked proper discernment to judge what time he was supposed to get out of the house.

The lack of understanding could have been a result of his failure to embrace wisdom in the first place. He went out in the wrong time yet wisdom helps us discern the times and seasons so as to be accurately positioned at all times.

Being in the right place is part of God’s way of protecting us from evil. He had forsaken wisdom and as a result he also put himself away from the path of understanding since understanding is a ‘sister’ to wisdom. No one moves into understanding without first embracing wisdom – the principal thing (Prov. 4:7).

The young man left the path of understanding and soon he met an adulterous woman who seduced him into sin. James said, when sin has fully grown it produces death and that is where the young man ended up.

Jesus said, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the father but by me.’ Wisdom and understanding are a product of accepting Jesus to be your way to heaven. He then becomes your way into all the treasures of wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

Life is a result of taking certain paths and eternal destiny is a fruit of our own decisions. Death and life are available to everyone while they are still on earth. The earth is a place of decision making. There are two paths in the earth, but after death, we are left with one path to followeither the broad way or the narrow path.

The fear of God turns us to God who then empowers us to have victory over evil. Our decision to choose the fear of God and understanding will eventually save us from death and the wrath of God.

It is the wisdom of God that will help you fear Him and love Him more passionately. It will also show you how to walk in wisdom toward those around you. Remember; the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Therefore as you read this book the wisdom of God is imparted unto your spirit and mind in the name of Jesus.

Understanding is a product of observing the instructions given in the word of God. God’s protection for our lives is hidden in the instructions that He gives to us.

Living a life that is within the limits of the instructions of God, gives you the ability to stay far away from evil: it shows a great level of understanding. Therefore, your strength against sin is not based on knowing the instructions but abiding by those instructions.

Understanding is a product of making God’s instructions your daily lifestyle. Notice that Proverbs 4:13 says, “Keep hold of instruction; do not let go; guard her, for she is your life.” Indiscipline, sin and failure are products of forgetting or neglecting God’s instructions.

The best way to live a holy life far from sin is by keeping away from the path of the wicked.

“Do not enter the path of the wicked …”; because it is dark and full of evil. It is a dark path so you will be blinded to the light (God’s word or instructions). After that you will become vulnerable to falling into any sin that is in the path. There is no safety in the path of the wicked even for the righteous. That is why it is understanding to depart from it.

Walking in understanding by not entering the evil paths in life but instead stick to God and make His instructions your lifestyle will position you for divine blessings. It is great understanding to avoid entering evil paths; it will save you from encountering the evil in those paths, and prevent you from being enticed into doing evil.

The reason Jesus came was to destroy the works of the devil. In doing so, He defeated the devil and demons. He gained all this victory for us so that we too can continually live in victory over Satan and demons. Therefore, we have the power to resist the devil and he will flee from us. If Satan does anything in our lives, it will only be because we permitted him. We permit him when we do not use the power and authority we have in Christ to resist him.

According to Ephesians 4:27, Satan and demons have no place in our lives except the one we give them. We determine whether Satan works in our lives and defeats us or not. Any time we see Satan doing anything in our lives, we should know we are the ones who allowed him the opportunity.

However, we should not blame ourselves; instead, we should repent and take up the armour of God and resist him.

The authority and power of God is available to us because we are His children, and by it we can always resist any work Satan tries to do in our lives or the lives of those around us.

The first step in resisting Satan is ensuring that we are free from any known sin. Repentance is God’s provision for us to always return to our place of glory and power before Him – free from past sins, guilt and condemnation which may hinder our faith. After we are reconciled back to fellowship with God, we can then boldly resist the devil in the name of Jesus, and he will flee from us in terror.

The key point here is that Satan has no right or power to do anything in our lives without our permission or participation. Also, if we ever find ourselves in a position where we have allowed him to work evil in our lives, we can quickly close the door to him and his works by repenting of our carelessness or sin, and use the name of Jesus to drive him out.

It is great understanding to avoid giving Satan an opportunity to work in your life at any time.

Understanding is key to closing the door to Satan and all his works.

Chapter 9: Consecration And Holiness

Consecration refers to;

1. Separation from sin to serve God
2. Separation from the world and its evil ways so as to be pleasing before God.
3. A deliberate decision to continually reject sin, Satan and all the works of darkness.

There are two kinds of consecration i.e. through the blood of Jesus and our own separation from the world because of what we have become in God, through holy living.

The first one happens when we accept Jesus to become our savior and become born again. It is God’s own work done in us through the Holy Spirit.

In the first part of consecration we are washed by the blood of Jesus and sanctified by the Holy Spirit unto righteousness because of faith in Jesus Christ.

In this first type of consecration, we are made fit to become part of the body of Jesus Christ. It also makes us clean enough for the Holy Spirit to come and live in us. It is the primary consecration needed by every human being. The first prepares us for the second type of consecration. It is the platform for being empowered to carry out the second type of consecration.

The second type of consecration is of no value without first laying a foundation through the first type of consecration. It is after receiving Jesus Christ and being washed in His blood and by the Holy Spirit that we become holy before God.

Religion is partly based on the second type of consecration. It emphasizes separation from sin without first receiving Jesus as Savior. It emphasizes godliness and holiness without the power of the Cross and the help of the Holy Spirit.

Religion therefore, makes one good but not right. It makes one have a form of godliness but without the power of Christ. Religion clothes man in his own righteousness rather than the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ.

The second type of consecration is a deliberate decision to keep away from sin because of your love for God. It is an act of worship to God by laying down your flesh and all its lusts at the cross of Christ daily.

In chapter six of Romans, Paul referred to consecration as refusing to yield our bodies as instruments of unrighteousness.

The second type of consecration is an act of the will. It is a personal decision to live for Christ. It is a decision to walk in the Spirit continually without yielding to the evil desires of the flesh. We are called to carry our cross daily and follow Christ. Just as He went to Calvary bearing our sins and nailed them on the cross, we also must lay aside our desires and nail them on the cross daily. See Philippians 3:7-8.

Consecration is a decision to identify with the crucifixion of Christ by crucifying the flesh and its evil desires. See Galatians 2:20. As a Christian you are called to identify with Jesus in His sufferings, crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection.

Consecration is a lifestyle that agrees with and allows the righteousness received through Christ to shine forth to all those around us. The seed of holiness is deposited in us at the new birth but it is cultivated and brings forth fruit on the platform of consecration.

Consecration is working out our own salvation with fear and trembling. We are told to pursue peace and holiness (Heb. 12:14) because without them no one will see God. This means that holiness is already present in us since we can’t pursue something that doesn’t exist. Consecration is a means for pursuing holiness.

It is impossible to live a holy and consecrated life before God without having an understanding of righteousness.

The Bible shows us that holy living is a fruit of righteousness. Holiness is a work of the righteous nature we receive when we are made new in our spirit – born again through faith in Jesus Christ.

It is this righteous nature of Christ we receive through salvation that makes us new people, having new and holy desires that help us hate and stay away from evil in this world. Therefore, we conclude that understanding is a product of knowing who you are in Christ Jesus.

The discovery of what God has done for you and in you makes you wise and full of understanding. This leads to living a life that is holy and consecrated unto God so as to serve and please Him always.

The aim of wisdom and understanding is to help us put off the old man with his deeds, and be conformed to our new and righteous nature in Christ, so that we live above the flesh, the world and the devil. They are to help us live as children of the light in this dark world, shinning as stars for the Lord.

It is impossible to live a successful Christian life without the acquisition and application of wisdom and understanding. Therefore, we should seek to increase in wisdom and understanding every day, and let us endeavor to walk in them daily. They are keys to staying on the path of life – the path of righteousness -the narrow way, and the Highway of Holiness.

The word of God is the key platform for accessing and increasing in wisdom and understanding. So, study and meditate on God’s word daily and you will grow strong in wisdom and understanding.

The Amplified Version of John 3:16 says, “For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.” God loves you, and He proved it by sending His Son Jesus to die for your sins so that by faith in Him, you will be saved.

The greatest gift of God to you is His Son – Jesus Christ. In Him you have life, righteousness, sanctification and wisdom. He is the author of life, health, and eternal wealth. He is the security for your soul, the only way to heaven, the true life and light that lights up everyone who comes to Him. He says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Jesus is God’s rest for you.

In Jesus you are more than a conqueror. He is the foundation for victory over sin, the world, the flesh, the devil, demons, sickness, disease, poverty, shame and defeat, discouragement. In Jesus you have victory over all the works of the devil; the limits are taken off of your life and you are empowered to defeat any challenge that comes your way.

23 The payment for sin is death, but the gift that God freely gives is everlasting life found in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Message Bible translation of 1 John 5:1112 says, “This is the testimony in essence: God gave us eternal life; the life is in his Son. So, whoever has the Son, has life; whoever rejects the Son, rejects life.” Believing In Jesus Christ is choosing Life – Jesus is Life! Rejecting Jesus (God’s free Gift of Salvation) is choosing death – Eternal Death. So, choose Jesus today that you may live. You can use the following prayer.

God in Heaven, I believe that Jesus is your Son, I believe that He died for my sins and rose again to give me eternal life. I confess that Jesus is Lord of my life, and believe in my heart that He was raised from death, I am calling upon your name now, and I am saved because you said whoever call on your name shall be saved. Amen.

The scripture says, “… if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Therefore, you are now saved because you have confessed with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and do believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead.

The next step is to receive the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in spiritual tongues. It is also called the baptism of the Holy Spirit or being filled with the Holy Spirit. The aim of the first prayer is to bring you into God’s family through faith in Jesus Christ, but the aim of the next prayer is to make your body a temple of God through the infilling of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 3:16; 6:19).

13 As bad as you are, you still know how to give good gifts to your children. But your heavenly Father is even more ready to give the Holy Spirit to anyone who asks.

Luke 11:13 (CEV)

It is God’s will and desire for you to be filled with the Holy Spirit. It is a means through which you receive power to succeed in your Christian walk and be an effective witness for Jesus Christ – Acts 1:8.

It is also the channel through which you receive the ability to operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit listed in First Corinthians 12. So go ahead and ask God to give you this precious gift now. You can use the following prayer.

Heavenly Father, You said in Luke 11:13 that you are willing to give the Holy Spirit to all who ask, I open up my heart to you now and by faith I receive the gift of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Go on, praise God and rejoice in Him. Open your mouth and speak “…as the Spirit of God gives you utterance …”.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit AND BEGAN TO SPEAK in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:4

As you continue to worship, the Holy Spirit will fill you. Don’t give up or doubt. Speak out the words that come to your heart or spirit. It is important for you to know that spiritual tongues are a form of spiritual language and it doesn’t appeal to the human mind. The words come from your spirit man and they are spiritual words that are given to you by the Holy Spirit.

14 For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying.

14 For if I pray in this way, my spirit prays indeed, but my mind has no part in it.

Don’t try to understand with your mind what you are speaking in tongues; it is a spiritual language only understood by your spirit. However, as you speak, you will be filled with joy, peace and the power of the Holy Spirit. Also with time, you will be able to know by your spirit at times what you are saying in tongues. Just make sure you do not doubt or give up!

Lastly, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to a Spiritfilled Church where they preach the true message of Jesus Christ and submit to the authority of the Pastor in that church. Every Christian is a ‘sheep’, and needs a sheepfold (church) and a shepherd over his or her life. The aim of this is for consistent fellowship, open accountability, and proper spiritual care to ensure your spiritual growth.
